Julian Rosefeldt

My home is a dark, cloud-covered country

Julian Rosefeldt (born 1965 in Munich, lives in Berlin) creates an emotionally touching, cinematic examination of a classic genre of painting, landscape, and drives his surreal settings through almost all genres of film history, from homeland films to science fiction.

His cinematic choreographies of time, image and space combinations, in which sound always plays a central role, take up cultural-historical topics and translate them into the present. The dichotomy of a German state of mind, the ideological exaggeration of nature, the nostalgia associated with a culturally rich past, and a mystical experience of nature are the cinematic ingredients that unfold in a dialectical game of pathos and tragedy, loneliness and connectedness, longing and forlornness.
