In two-dimensionality, a world of its own spatiality emerges, like an evocation of the unconscious as an associated side of being.

Franz Johannknecht (born 1903 in Düsseldorf, died 1974 in Dessau) studied at the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf from 1929 to 1933, among other things as a master student with Werner Heuser and Ewald Mataré. From the 1960s onwards, his oeuvre in Dessau developed independently and autonomously. In two-dimensionality, a world of its own spatiality emerges, like an evocation of the unconscious as an associated side of being. Initially more figurative figurations and narrative details connected, dreamy and poetic milieus, abstract signs grew out of it.
